Getting help

When reporting a problem, it helps enormously to include your iOS version, your device, the version of Sparely shown in Settings → About, and what you did just before it went wrong. Please do not send screenshots that contain amounts you would rather keep private — a description is nearly always enough.

Common questions

Where is my data kept?

On your device, and — if you are signed in to iCloud — in the private storage of your own Apple Account, so it is backed up and shared between your devices. There is no Sparely server. See the privacy policy.

My entries have not appeared on my other device

Sync is Apple's iCloud, so it needs both devices signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on, and a network connection. It can take a little while after a large change. Opening the app and leaving it in the foreground for a minute usually finishes the exchange.

How do I share an account with someone?

Send them an invitation from the account in Sparely. They can then see and, if you allow it, edit the entries in that account — nothing else. You can stop sharing or remove a participant at any time, which withdraws their access.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Manage Data → Delete all data permanently deletes the entries, accounts, labels and templates you own, from this device and from your iCloud copy, and resets your preferences. It cannot be undone.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Sparely exports to CSV, and imports it back, from the Today screen. Your ledger is yours and is never locked in.

Why did my currency rates not update?

Rates come from a public exchange-rate service once a day and are cached on the device. If the service is unreachable, Sparely keeps using the last rates it has and says so under the currency picker.

Privacy

Sparely collects nothing. It contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking of any kind. The full statement is on the privacy policy page.
